A person who spiked candy with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two young males who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on 28 November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.

The defendant engaged in a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She told the court the defendant had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.

She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "This year his stepson had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel stated objects including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She said the defendant continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she continued.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The prosecutor explained the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police once more.

She explained Ruben then played the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
